How can we draw a gesture?
Can we draw a dialogue?

Venue: Dickson Street Hall, Newtown.

Attendance: 3 people

Theme: Landscape in the sphere of motion (Ref. Hanny Exiner’s Sphere of Movement)

Materials: A4 paper, large paper roll, scissors, charcoal sticks, Walkman CD & speakers

Sound: Secret Places, Ron Nagorcka (with permission)

Gregorian chants

Action:

1. Spatial and social orientation of self

Walking towards and away from objects and each other; feeling body weight through feet to floor and reaching outwards through extremities upwards and outwards through eyes.

2. Body awareness

What needs stretching? (individual)
Joints
Free and bound motion (swinging and guiding), transitions between states
Anticipation – moving through space, changing direction

3. Alignment

Forward rolls and reaching (in place and in motion)
Isolation of body parts (in place and in motion)

4. Scores

Rise & sink; open & close; bound and flowing

Draw lines through space, leading with different body parts,
Move large and small shapes, within and between selves

4. Drawing to a score

a. Individually – bound and flowing; strong and light (a4 paper)
b. As a group – Rise & sink; open & close. As a landscape, moving as one (large paper roll)

5. Contours drawing landscapes

Taking turns to draw and move a landscape

6. Without talk, move the drawing into moving, within the personal sphere (internal landscape)

7. As a group, draw the personal landscape onto paper. Move around the large sheet, working from all angles. Write words and phrases that come to mind.

8. On separate sheets, draw one symbol 3 times, and a word or phrase.

9. Share experience through giving symbols and discussion

End

(next time, end with moving the symbol)
