Lines of thought

I had a long day animating yesterday – drawing the young dancer crawling on bricks – rotoscoping (drawing over the photos and doing in-betweens, so there is left are lines).

Animating the figure and bricks on separate layers will allow me to move the two separately in different contexts. For example, I can animate the bricks moving over ice.

Funny how you can tell the bricks are moved by a human, even though you can’t see him.
I love that.

The bricks look like the rectangular buildings of Antarctic bases – so regular and unexpected in an icy wilderness.

I could colour them the same bright colours as these, and they would be children’s toys.

So these kinds of images, metaphors and ideas arise – and the temptation is to simply go ahead with these, and not document the process. The documenting influences the making, and you can lose the stream of thought – lose that energy.

I have made pencil jottings, just as notes to myself of ways to do things – not any kind of sequential explanation for anyone else to read.
A to-do list really, to continue with yesterday’s train of thought.
