From Davis station, Antarctica, Ian Phillips sends his recent photos of the Sculpture Garden.
Stephen Eastaugh started the Garden in 2002, when summering over as the station’s artist in residence. He was inspired by Man Sculptured by Antarctica, or Fred the Head, as some call it, a totem carved by an earlier expeditioner.
From looking at the two photos, the two heads appear to be facing at each other.
I missed seeing the sewn-on eyelashes and pursed lips of Headhome in the lo-res pictures of the AAD website. Close up, Headhome appears quite feminine.
