Introduction
The website, Antarctic Animation, answers the question suggested by the foundation work: how can animation be used to connect viewers with Antarctica through the insights of its research community? To gather, share, and discuss data that reveals Antarctic insights, the Thesaurus and Log were built. To connect with Antarctica’s research community, the Encounters animations were made. The film, Antarctic Energies, most succinctly succeeds in answering the research question by combining the insights of many to suggest a unified picture. Additionally, while composing this work, new animation processes were developed that build on those used in the foundation work. Drawing and dance were used to convey the flow of energy within the Antarctic ecosystem, and to convey the feelings that some have expressed of their connections to Antarctica.
This chapter evaluates these claims against questions that may be asked to challenge them.
