“The flowers are blooming too early this year” a woman had said this morning, pruning her roses in her garden.
“It’s time to prune the bushes, but it breaks my heart to lose the flowers. They’ve all come too soon.”

Actually it’s a vertical dial on the front of the building. The gnomon is a copper rod sticking out of the wall on the second storey. I had hoped to mark out the hours on the day of the winter solstice June 21 but there was no sun. Today will have to do. I lost shadow at about 4:30pm.
