What I plan to do is not always what happens.
This is a workshop in improvisation. Things happen.
Venue: Dickson Street Hall, Newtown.
Attendance: 5 people
Theme: Landscape within and beyond the sphere of motion (Ref. Hanny Exiner’s Sphere of Movement)
Materials: A4 paper, large paper roll, scissors, charcoal sticks, shapry lead pencils, Walkman CD & speakers, spare batteries

Action PLAN:
To move and draw from formlessness to form, through curved and straight pathways into shapes, drawing transitions between shapes, using clear phrasing.
To make long transitional movement phrases into long drawings, working individually, in small groups, as a whole group.

WHAT HAPPENED
Walking: through curved and straight pathways; leading with different body parts; fast and slow; motion and stillness (end shapes embodying movement phrase)
Allowing various body parts to lead the body – followed by the eye – from within to beyond our sphere of movement.
Drawing line direct and curved pathways through space, enjoying the stillness in beginning and ending shapes.
Recognizing how motion paths can define shapes.
Moving with an awareness of others, and the space shapes formed.
Moving as a whole group.
Moving in response to others. Leading and responding.
Without speaking, working in small groups, drawing line phrases in turns:visual dialogues.
Recognising when to end.
Recognising and drawing one shape each, in response to the experience as a whole.
Using drawn shapes as scores for a new movement phrase.
Teach the phrase to others. Develop a shared dance, sharing and subverting all phrases, maintaining clarity of motion lines and still shapes.
Dividing the group in two, take turns to move and draw the other half drawing and shaping space.
Break.
Drawing and moving landscapes: rising, sinking, expanding, contracting…and beyond.
Working with charcoal on a large paper roll, allowing free movement between drawings – reflecting the shared space in the room.
Sharing and discussing.
