Dr Cat Kutay
Cat Kutay is descended from seafarers of Aboriginal and Celtic origin. Cat is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Charles Darwin University. She works with Aboriginal communities for online language learning, story sharing and data analysis as a way for Aboriginal culture and knowledge to be acknowledged and integrated into Australian engineering approaches.

She is a Computer and Electrical Engineer. She manages projects developing software for web services for Indigenous Knowledge sharing and embed Indigenous Knowledge in university teaching. In particular she develops online and blended learning resources using narrative techniques, simulations, games and multimedia to provide more immersive techniques and practice-based learning. She is working in the area of Natural Language Processing and developing AI models for speech to speech translations with local languages to assist business management and service provision with language support. She is also working with Bilingual programs to support teachers in school to incorporate IT into the language work.

Cat Kutay’s research is in the areas of: Indigenous knowledge management, particularly through online and mobile systems; Human-computer Interaction, in particular the presentation of information for exploration and pattern matching; Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL); and Artificial agents for emergent narrative in games and language processing.
