I drew this schematic representation of the water circulation under an ice shelf from Figure 1 in the article, Peephole through the ice: the AMISOR project.
Visually representing how bottom water moves is difficult because it happens in all dimensions and on a vast scale as it moves away from Antarctica.
I built the animation, Bottom water, by beginning with a gesture.
I moved as I understand bottom water to move: falling down, heavy with salt, and then spiraling slowly outwards and upwards, towards warmer northern waters.
Can the human body convey such a vast, complex force?
