In the Mitchell Library I make studies of Fred Elliott’s drawings of the Framnes Fjellas (Framnes Mountains). I am struck by the stark lines and tones with which he marks the elemental forms of nunatak in full sunlight, and the subtleties of texture in the rock and ice. Fred climbed the rock and sledged the ice with John Bechervaise in January 1956.
