in conversation with Tiriki Onus in response to Octagon gallery at VCA and in conversation with Lisa- been thinking about sea urchins and portable domes as housings for installations that could literally pop up at different places-more than one version copy and or demountable and able to travel..?
links for portable domes could be used with full dome projectors OR just standard projector on segment of roof inside dome- also seen from outside of dome at night..
specific projectors- likely to be expensive

could use traditional projectors mapped to just sections of the dome inside with other small sculptures and pedestals some with smaller screens embedded in them or projecting out from
fabric lite domes and other structures

maybe adapt with extra wire/alumnium or even bamboo? ribbing to make into Sea Urchin type structure?

Paul, I really like the idea of a design that can be adapted to different locations, and that comprises hand-crafted things. I followed your links to the ready-mades and can’t see how they will attract attention to the spirit of the creatures. To me your modest drawings speak more strongly than the big plastic things. Ad do we really want plastic?
yep absolutely the plastic commercial examples were just meant as proof of possibility/feasibility, ideas for designing something that can pack away – thanks Lisa
Glad we’re on the same page, Paul, literally!
I’ve also talked about this idea of a vessel for travelling with Gwangi Monks and his students. Gwanji is an artist and art teacher at Eora TAFE in Sydney who recently set his students an assignment to create small ceramic works as ‘vessels’ to contain their stories. Most of these vessels take the form of creatures, so maybe if it interests the students, these can form part of the Seeding Treaties installations we’re planning for NAIDIC week at Boommalli Aboriginal Art Co-op (Leichardt) and Kerrie Lowe Gallery (Newtown).
The Sea Museum (was called Australian Maritime Museum) is also a possible venue for a ‘permanent’ exhibit.
The design we come up for, for the ANAT (Australian Network for Art & Technology) show at the VCA’s Octagon could potentially migrate to the Sea Museum. It would be useful to start drawing sketches to help move that idea forward. Sea Museum curators are open to discussions about this.
